Outreach

READS Program at Parkwood Elementary
The Arlington Family YMCA's Outreach Program is a special reading program called YMCA READS for neighborhood children. YMCA READS offers one-on-one tutoring for 1st and 2nd graders. We are proud to say that this program has been able to help 100% of the children increase their reading levels since the program began.

The READS Program  counts on the support of our local community and our YMCA in order to provide their services to the community. If you have any interest in donating services, time, supplies or funds please contact us at 904-744-2233.

"Tutoring at Parkwood Elementary School has been great. I love being able to be a part of the kids lives by just volunteering to help them in school and give some of my time each week. There is no other feeling like ht one you get when you’re greeted by a classroom of elementary students with a gleam in their eyes who are excited to see you. These kids are eager for help and for someone to care. It’s a privilege to be that person!"

Volunteers
As a charitable association, the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast relies on the efforts and assistance that we receive form our team of volunteers. We believe that the partnership between volunteers and professionals is what makes our delivery of service unique and successful.

Here are a few ways you can “Get Involved” at Arlington:

  • Membership Greeter
  • Maintenance
  • Fund-Raising
  • Coach for all Team Sports
  • Team Parent
  • KidZone Storyteller
  • Special Events Assistant (Family Nights)
  • Swim Meet Assistant
  • Parent Greeter at Swim Lessons
  • Golf Tournament Volunteer
  • Donations/Solicitation

Strong Kids
Strong Kids is our annual giving campaign that provides a vitally important portion of the dollars we need to serve families on the First Coast. The YMCA seeks financial support from members, businesses and community donors to ensure no one is turned away from participating in YMCA programs because of the inability to pay.

We count on volunteers to help raise funds for our Strong Kids Campaign each year. If you would be interested in donating your time or funds please contact Sean Schicker at 904-744-2233.
