Teens (grades 6-12)

Ask anybody in Baker County and they will tell you – if you have a teenager that says there is nothing to do – send them to the Y! We offer a teen/student membership, as well as a variety of avenues of participation beyond fitness for middle-school and high-school students…

YMCA COMMUNITY CENTERS

Macclenny and Sanderson Teen Centers welcome Baker Teens

We operate an outreach center for the community at our location in Macclenny and Sanderson.  These centers are open to YMCA members and community participants alike, free of charge. The center is supervised by a trained adult during all hours of operation, and includes recreational activities such as billiards, foosball, air-hockey, ping-pong, computer games, music, movie days, crafts days,  and a trendy café décor.

YMCA TOTAL TEEN TIME (AKA  Triple-T)

Popularly referred to by our teens as Triple-T, Total Teen Time is an arts and fitness middle-school after-school care program for students at Baker County Middle School.  Participants receive homework assistance everyday, outdoor sports and team-building activities, character development discussion sessions, church-service opportunities, and bi-weekly Fun Friday trips.

YMCA OUTSPOK’N

Most teens nowadays do not just want someWHERE to belong – they want someTHING to belong to! Enter Outspok’n – a diverse group of teens from Middle School and High School who aren’t afraid to say what they believe in.  Primarily, abstinence – from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and pre-marital teen sexual activity.  Outspok’n meets bi-weekly and participants who are enrolled in Outspok’n have the opportunity to focus on one specific area of interest, or as we call it “the second tier”:

-          Youth in Government Club; grades 8-12 who want to make change by writing laws, legislation, and putting democracy into action!  Yearly conference:  State Legislative Conference (SLC) in Tallahassee, FL

-          Leaders Club; grades 6-12 interested in sports and childcare, as well as developing themselves through physical education leadership training.  Yearly conference:  Blue Ridge Leaders School (BRLS) in Black Mountain, NC

-          Minority Achievers Club; grades 8-12 who want to learn from minority leaders in a variety of career clusters job skills, benefits of higher education, and leadership development.  Yearly conference:  Spring Break College Tour

-          Teen Sisterhood Club; grades 6-12 who want to develop into positive, adult women.  The emphasis is on learning constructive social skills and healthy self-image, camaraderie, and anger-management.

YMCA Outspok'n Teen Club

The YMCA Outspok'n Teen Club will be traveling to Jacksonville to participate in the annual "Great 2 Wait" conference on April 22nd. Outspok'n is about standing up for what you believe, and feeling proud to remain free of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and teen pre-marital sexual activity. Outspok'n - are YOU with us?
