Internships at the YMCA of Florida's First Coast
The YMCA of Florida's First Coast has approximately 1,800 full-and part-time employees, serving more than 44,000 members.
Internship Program Objectives:
• Provides intern practical experience by observing and
participating in day-to-day conduct of projects related to
fields of interest.
• To provide opportunities for application and development
of professional methods and skills through actual practice.
Emphasis is placed on developing competence in basic
professional methods such as analysis, fiscal management,
planning, record keeping, promotion, programming, teaching,
member services and evaluation.
• To provide a wide range of experiences and observations in
the chosen area for the internship. This diversification
becomes an invaluable guide as the intern chooses a
professional path that best reflects his/her career goals.

• Currently is an undergraduate or graduate student in good
standing, both academically and otherwise.

Core: Health and Fitness
Objectives for the Internship: To learn all aspects
about wellness programming of the YMCA. Duties may include
assisting with wellness challenges, personal training
sessions and all aspects of the new member consultation
process. Orientations include cardio and strength equipment,
body comp assessments, test & prescription, etc. Gain
knowledge of day to day maintenance of a clean and friendly
wellness floor.
Educational Background Needed: Exercise sciences /
Physiology, Health promotion or related fields. CPR – PR
certification.

Core: Nutrition and Dietetic
Objectives for the Internship: Practical hands-on
experience in helping a team of dietitians in the delivery
of healthy living programs such as: the 12-week weight
management program through Duval County Public Schools,
Commit To Be Fit, and First Coast Games.
Educational Background Needed: Nutrition or related
field
Location(s): Brooks Family YMCA
Core: Business Operations / Human
Resources
Objectives for the Internship: Partner with the Human
Resources staff on recruitment efforts, benefits assistance,
personnel file management, performance appraisal management,
the new hire orientation program, professional development
and training initiatives, employee communication & employee
relations, and additional HR projects.
Educational Background Needed: Human Resources,
Business or related field

Design Intern
Objectives for Internship: Experience includes
developing design aspects of the marketing department such
as flyers, t-shirts, postcards, logos, website and other
marketing materials.
Educational Background Required: Strong interest in

Photoshop.
