learn to swim at the YMCA
During the spring and summer months, people of all ages are suiting up and diving into pools, rivers, lakes and oceans. The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast invites you to join us to learn to swim and brush up on your water safety skills before you take the plunge this swim season. We offer group, private, and semi-private lessons for all ages across the first coast, so you are sure to find what you and your family need.
Group Lessons
These YMCA instructional programs teach children stroke fundamentals and water safety. Children are divided into groups depending on age and swimming level.
Parent / Child Lessons
This YMCA instructional program for children between 6 months and 36 months promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness. Swim diapers are required and a parent / guardian must be in class with the child.Offered at the following branches: Brooks, Dye Clay, Williams, Winston, Yates, Arlington, McArthur, Barco-Newton
Preschool Lessons
In this YMCA instructional program, children between the ages of 3 and 5 will develop fundamental swimming skills and water safety.

Youth Lessons
In this YMCA instructional program, children 6 years of age and older will learn techniques associated with the four basic swimming strokes – freestyle, breast stroke, butterfly, and backstroke – in addition to water safety.

Private Lessons
These lessons are for all ages to develop proper swimming skills and techniques in a one-on-one format. Private lessons are ideal for those who are afraid of the water or want to improve stroke mechanics.

Semi-Private Lessons
These lessons are shared by two individuals, ages 3 and up, who are of the same skill and maturity level. Lessons will develop proper swimming skills and techniques.

Adaptive Aquatics
These lessons are offered for children and adults at the Brooks Family YMCA. Lessons are designed to develop basic swim skills and water safety, with an emphasis on increasing the participant’s flexibility, balance and range of motion.
