Apr 26, 2010: YMCA Sells Rock Walls To A Central Florida Climbing Gym Coming To Town June 1
The YMCA of Florida’s First Coast finalized the sale of the South Metro Family YMCA’s rock walls to On The Edge Rock Climbing Gym. The company, which currently operates an indoor rock climbing gym in Melbourne, Florida, will assume operations June 1.
Last month, the YMCA announced the upcoming closure of the South Metro Y (3563 Philips Highway, Suite #702, Jacksonville, FL 32207) due to financial considerations. The Y intended to operate the indoor rock climbing facility through the end of the month of July, but to avoid any lapses in service to the climbing community, reached a mutually beneficial agreement with the new tenant which allowed for an earlier transition.
The final day of operations as the South Metro Family YMCA will be May 28. The facility will re-open as The Edge Rock Gym June 1.
