Arts and Humanities
Traditionally known as places to learn how to swim or make a jump shot, YMCAs are rapidly becoming places where kids and adults learn to paint, write, sing or act. Whether it’s a dance class, a craft workshop or a regular book group, the Y seeks to engage people in appreciating the arts. Take a look at some of our most popular arts and humanities programs below, but keep in mind that offerings vary by branch.
Wee Chefs
Unleash your little sous chef in the kitchen! This program is designed to accommodate chefs between the ages of 3 and 5. Wee Chefs incorporates age-appropriate culinary skills, colors, shapes, numbers, nutrition and manners. Each class is 45 minutes and paced for preschoolers.
Creative Movement
Bring your kids to the Y to learn the fundamentals of dance! In this class, children will learn basic dance steps and discover how to twist and twirl.
Beat Boppers
Children, ages 3 to 5, develop an appreciation for music through singing, dance and learning how to play new instruments.
Messy Fingers
This six-week art program, designed for ages 3 to 5, encourages creative exploration - no matter how messy - through art. Children will explore with paint, clay, crayons, markers, and so much more!
Little Van Goghs
Young artists, ages 3 and older, learn how to create self-portraits and construct art projects with items such as paint and molding clay.
Energy Bugs
Children, ages 3 and older, learn the value of fitness by participating in interactive games and stretching exercises, keeping their energy and heart rate up.
