Kids Childhood obesity is reaching epidemic proportions in the United States. According to the American Obesity Association,
"Teaching healthy behaviors at a young age is important...behaviors involving physical activity and nutrition are the cornerstone of preventing obesity in children and adolescents."
The YMCA of Florida's First Coast is committed to knocking out childhood obesity through healthy fitness and nutrition programs in all of our family YMCAs. Contact your local branch for more information about kids wellness programs and youth sports.

Youth sports programs at the YMCA of Florida's First Coast emphasize good sportsmanship, teamwork, character values, and fellowship with others – all while working to teach and develop fundamental skills.
We do not have try-outs or cuts... we are not concerned with winning and losing, keeping score, or league standing... everybody plays at least half of the game. In attempting to meet the individual needs of participants, the rules of our particular programs are molded and sometimes modified from the actual rules of the sport. Overall, our goal is to build strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
Basketball, flag-football, soccer, swim team and more... all sports programs are designed to make each player a winner in his or her own right. Parents are encouraged to become referees and youth sports coaches at the YMCA, to make youth sports a family affair.
Please call your local YMCA location to find out more about youth sports seasons and sign-ups or visit our
Youth Sports
website.
Financial assistance is available for all sports programs.

The Y Guide programs have a long history of providing children ages 3 and up and their parents with opportunities for good times, learning and mutual understanding. In the Y-Adventure Guide Programs, a parent and child meet with other parents and children teams in a small group called a tribe. Tribes get together for tribal meetings or participate in fun and educational outside activities.
