In this challenging economic time, our YMCA has been faced with tough decisions. After carefully monitoring the usage of the South Metro Family YMCA, we have determined that the demand in this community is just not strong enough to continue providing services there. The final day of service will be Wednesday April 14, 2010 and we will close the doors of the facility effective Thursday, April 15, 2010.

However, our climbing gym will remain open through the month of July on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm. We will continue to offer birthday parties and group climbing times, but they must be scheduled two weeks in advance. The only climbing class we will offer is the belay class, which is free to Florida’s First Coast members, $5 if you have a branch-only membership and $10 for non-members.

We’re looking for a few good individuals to share their enthusiasm, skills and ideas with us as a YMCA volunteer. If you would like to meet new friends, share experiences with an array of people and make a big difference in the lives of individuals in our community, then stop by our member services desk for more details on how to become a YMCA volunteer.

Bring a partner and save

Tired of working out alone or need someone to keep you motivated? Bring your own work out partner to the Y. Refer a friend and / or family member to join the South Metro YMCA with you and if they join, you get a free month of membership! In addition, we will enter your name in our mystery box drawing each week, now through the end of March. What’s in our mystery box? A variety of prizes ranging from free personal training sessions to t-shirts and discounts on climbing activities.

Coming to the Y to climb?

We offer plenty of opportunities to come climb Northeast Florida’s largest indoor rock climbing facility. If you are planning to make a visit, come prepared with your waiver already printed out and signed. Just download the document below and you will be one step closer to reaching the top.

Celebrate in style at the Y!

Celebrate in style at the YMCA with a rock climbing birthday party! All parties include 90 minutes of climb time and 30 minutes for the party in our climbing room. A YMCA staff member will be available to help setup and clean up, as well as monitor climbers during your climb time. For party days, times and fees, click here.

Team Building Events at the YMCA Alpine Tower

This freestanding 50-foot tower with two interlocking tripods includes intricate belay safety systems which instill trust and cooperation in one’s team. The YMCA Challenge Course provides opportunities for participants to accomplish multiple objectives within the challenge wall, island, toxic river and more.

Included in the program:

• 2 hrs on the Tower with 2 hrs of Team Building Low Rope Challenges, with accommodations for up to 40 people at a time
• Corporate rates: $500 for up to 4 hours ($25/person over 18)
• A Booking Fee of $100 confirms date (applied towards total fee)
