YMCA group exercise classes offer something for everyone – from the soothing calm of yoga and Pilates to the high intensity of aerobics and Y-Cycling! Attending a class with others who are motivated to get fit and have fun will inspire you to keep healthy and try something new every time you come into the Y!
The following classes are just some of what the YMCA of Florida's First Coast has to offer. Variations of each class as well as specialized classes are available at individual branches. Be sure to check out your local branch's website for more information on specific group exercise classes.
Designed for the active older adult, this class converges all of the components of physical fitness to include cardiovascular training, weight bearing exercises, core training and stretching.

We have many different strength training classes using barbells and variable resistance techniques. The goal of these body shaping classes is to increase muscle definition and endurance while decreasing body fat.

This power packed workout incorporates boxing and kickboxing techniques for a great cardiovascular exercise. Get fit and lean while learning a variety of punches and kicks, along with agility training.

A stimulating stationary cycle class guaranteed to be a great workout for everyone! You will burn calories and test your cardio fitness level with a variety of strength, interval, endurance and recovery formats. Your journey will include climbing hills, flat roads, and jumps, but you set the pace and the intensity level. Available in both beginner and intermediate levels.

SilverSneakers® is a unique physical activity program designed to encourage Medicare-eligible members to increase their physical activity. It is a chair based class that offers a wide variety of equipment and activities to help you have fun as you increase muscle strength and joint flexibility. Based on "fitness, fun and friends", this program incorporates fun social programming to enhance independent living skills.

Available at the following branches:
- Arlington Family YMCA – All kids ages 5 and up are welcome to join us for "Kid's Tag-Mania!" This 60 minute class is designed to keep the kids active and involved with different and exciting games of "tag".
- Barco-Newton Family YMCA – Stability ball, cycling, and hip hop aerobics classes are open to youth ages 10 to 15. All youth must appropriately fit the bikes to participate in the Youth Cycling class.
Family Pilates is a blend of pilates and yoga appropriate for children ages 6 & up. Each child must have a parent present.
- Winston Family YMCA – Kid's Yoga is a great way to introduce your child to the benefits of Yoga. The class is open to all children ages 3 to 8.

Designed for beginner or intermediate climbers. Learn knots, basic climbing skills, and general climbing safety with the use of our climbing equipment. (2 hour class is FREE to members, $25 for general public – includes a day pass) Must be 12 years of age or older.
Are you looking for something a little more daring? Enjoy Indoor Rock Climbing at the South Metro Family YMCA! Try free climbing or one of the classes offered:
- Belay Class – This class covers the use of all climbing gear and rope skills that you will need to take full advantage of the entire climbing gym. (FREE to members, $10 for general public) Must be 12 years of age or older.
- Rock Lizards – Designed for ages 5 to 11 years old. This is a great time to let your children climb while you exercise! Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
- Advanced Climbing Classes – Offered bimonthly. Inquire about dates and times with Lee Vartanian. (Both classes, Skills 1 and Skills 2 are 8 hour classes)
- Private Climbing Lesson – The lesson covers various training techniques including, but not limited to, performance, endurance, and strength skills. All private lessons must be scheduled in advance. Fees: 1 hour session – $25 30 minute session – $15
