Individual Counseling
Meet with Kerri Napoleon, Registered Dietitian – in a one hour session, receive your specific calorie, protein, carbohydrates, & fat needs and receive a suggested meal plan according to those needs. Or meet to discuss healthier eating habits and how to implement those habits. Also available for Disease Specific Counseling (i.e. Diabetes, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Allergies, etc.).

Nutrition & Lifestyle Class
This class meets a total of seven times on a biweekly basis; each class lasts for one hour. Taught by a Registered Dietitian, the concentration is on nutrition, but exercise and behavior management is also integrated so participants can develop healthy new lifestyle changes. Participants will receive a recommended calorie and protein level to promote weight loss, and two weeks of menus corresponding to their calorie levels. They will learn about carbohydrates, protein & fat, healthy meal planning, eating on the run, eating out at restaurants, and stress and eating.

Your Resting Metabolic Rate

Have you ever wondered what your metabolism is?

Is it fast, slow or average? We can measure it for you. The YMCA is now offering nutrition appointments with the MedGem (a FDA approved machine that measures your resting metabolism).

HOW DOES IT WORK? MedGem is an FDA-approved hand-held device that quickly and accurately measures your resting metabolic rate (RMR), or how many calories the body burns while resting. The patient simply breathes through the MedGem mouthpiece. Within 10 minutes, the MedGem accurately measures the total number of calories the individual burns at rest.

WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW MY RESTING METABOLIC RATE (RMR)? Knowing your RMR can lead to tremendous health benefits. Metabolism varies from person to person and is determined by your body composition, weight, age and gender. Medications, stress, smoking and other factors can also affect your RMR, so the only accurate way to know your RMR is to have it measured.

What to do before your appointment: (preferably in the morning)

  1. You must not have any food 4 hours before your appointment.
  2. You cannot exercise before your appointment.
  3. You cannot consume alcohol, drink caffeine, or smoke cigarettes before your appointment.
  4. You may have water.

Rates:
MedGem Appointment with activity expenditure consult (30 minutes): $65

Once you know the amount of calories you burn at rest, we figure the amount of calories you expend during the day and from exercise. Then we can determine the amount of calories you need depending on your goals – lose weight, gain muscle, training, etc.

MedGem Appointment with Nutrition Assessment and Individualized Meal Plan (1 hour): $110.00
