The YMCA's tradition of community outreach goes back to the beginnings of the Y movement. Our Share the Y initiative provides scholarships for programs, camp and Y membership. No one is ever turned away from the Y based on ability to pay.

New Life Educational Center

For the past seven years the Yates YMCA and New Life Community Church have partnered to develop one of the city's most innovative after school programs. In the heart of the urban community of Springfield, the New Life Educational center is affecting lives of children and families that are desperately seeking help to better their lives.

Three days a week, the certified staff and volunteers work to create a curriculum that challenges elementary students who are struggling with math, reading and writing, science, computers and social skills. The center's goal is to provide students with the learning skills that will develop their life academically, but at the same time offer them some practical skills that they could use to make it in life. With computers, one-on-one tutoring, field trips and Christian love, we have seen the program change young lives significantly. The center is funded by the partnership and through financial support given by generous donors in the Jacksonville community. We encourage people in the community to get involved with this program by volunteering and financially supporting this great effort.
